Hounds for HomingGreyhound Rescue West of England (GRWE) is the leading independent greyhound rescue charity in England & Wales, dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of abused and abandoned greyhounds and greyhound crosses. From humble beginnings the charity now rehomes almost 500 of these special dogs every year. GRWE takes in greyhounds and greyhound crosses from members of the public, veterinary surgeries, dog wardens and the police. We also help trainers and owners rehome their racing greyhounds and dogs also come to us from general rescue centres. Some greyhounds also come from as far afield as Wales, Scotland and Ireland if resources allow. If you are interested in offering one of our dogs a loving, secure home for life then please get in touch to arrange a homevisit. Our main areas of operation are Hertfordshire, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Shropshire, Cheshire, Lancashire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, and with representation as far east as Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and Hampshire. All homes will be visited by one of our volunteer homecheckers to discuss your requirements so that we are better able to match you with a sutiable hound. Below are some of the dogs waiting for homes in the Hertfordshire area: DrumThis is our big baby DRUM! Drum is a Wolfhound x Greyhound he is only 11 mnths old and has sadly found himself homeless. Drum has come from a family home and has lived with children of varying ages and a cat. There were two other dogs in the home with Drum, but Drum did not live alongside them in the home and after initial assesments we think that a home where Drum can be the only dog would be better. Drum currently stands at 30 inches but he is very bulky so seems alot bigger - and his long neck and huge head are held alot higher!!!! he is also rather untoned and could do with a nice excercise regime to get him in shape. He is a big, gentle, daft lump and he is comedy to watch play! Drum walks beautifully on the lead - good job really! Drum needs alot of space to run and play and as he is young someone around for the majority of the time would be nice for him. If you think you can offer this lovely boy a home please get in touch. IbyanIbyan has come to us from a pound in Wales, she is a young lurcher, approx 2 yrs old. We do not know her exact breeding of course; but we have had fun guessing and she does look very Podenco like! but whatever Iby has in her she is a striking, playful young girl, confident and friendly with other dogs and she has a happy disposition. Iby did live with a family for a very short time but was handed back to the pound when the family decided they couldnt cope. Iby is a lovely girl just looking for the right home to guide and train her - please get in touch if you think you have an active home to offer Iby. Iby has not been tested with cats. LouieLouie is a beautiful black greyhound who came to us after his owners circumstances changed. Louie has lived in a house with other greyhounds and is currently in a foster home whilst he is waiting for someone to offer him a home. louie is a complete sweetheart, a big softy he is very laid back and will make someone very happy.
